Andre Veloz's Bio
Born in St. Croix and raised in El Cibao, the heartland of the Dominican Republic, Andre Veloz is a renaissance woman: Singer, songwriter, painter and actor. Her surname (English translation: “Fast”) bespeaks the daring of a woman who has plunged headlong into the male-dominated world of Latin music, focusing on Bachata. Faithful to her roots Andre takes pride on representing Latinas, the Dominican Republic and her home since 2004, New York. Veloz connects her Dominican roots to inspiration of New York City jazz, Latin jazz, merengue to the Bachata world. Her soulful voice is tailor made for this genre that Andre has dubbed as The “Dominican Blues.” While Andre Veloz is very much part of that NYC music scene, she contributes her own saucy, fanciful and feminine sensibility. As part of her crusade Andre has been part of “Bizarre Foods” hosted by Andrew Zimmern on it’s 2016 Bronx episode. She has brought her music and cultural heritage to stages such as Lincoln Center and Folk Festivals such as the Montana, American, Lowell, Richmond VA, NC Folk Festival.
